Kill Sheet Calculator
A kill sheet ties every well-control number together: kill weight, circulating pressures, string and annular volumes, strokes and a step-down schedule so the choke operator knows exactly what drill pipe pressure to hold as kill mud goes down the string.
Formulas
String volume
V = Σ (ID² / 1029.4) × lengthStrokes surface to bit
STB = String volume / Pump outputPressure step-down
ΔP per step = (ICP − FCP) / number of stepsWorked example
GIVEN
- 10,000 ft of 5" 19.5# DP (ID 4.276")
- Pump output = 0.100 bbl/stk
- ICP = 1,120 psi, FCP = 659 psi
WORKING
- Capacity = 4.276² / 1029.4 = 0.01776 bbl/ft
- String volume = 0.01776 × 10,000 = 177.6 bbl
- STB = 177.6 / 0.1 = 1,776 stk
- 10 steps → drop ≈ 46 psi every 178 strokes
1,776 strokes to bit, DP pressure falls from 1,120 to 659 psi
FAQ
Driller's method or Wait & Weight?
The schedule here is for Wait & Weight (one circulation). For the Driller's method, hold ICP constant on the first circulation, then follow the schedule with kill mud on the second.
Can I print it for the doghouse?
Yes — Pro users can export the kill sheet as a PDF report.
